You only get one shot to capture these big moments, and you don’t want your client to miss out because your gear just couldn’t keep up.

The art of a good wedding portrait goes well beyond crisp photography. You will need to learn all about elements such as aperture, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and more. There are some handy guides that will help you determine how to quickly adjust your settings so you let in the optimal amount of light for your pics. By learning these essentials, you can save time as you start to edit. 

Become a Wedding Day Assistant or Second Photographer

If you don’t have any experience working at an actual wedding, one of the best things you can do is work as a wedding day assistant or second photographer. There are a few different perks to this. First, you are going to get real-world experience while learning from an expert. Secondly, once it’s time to start working on your own, you can have these pictures for your portfolio.  

Build Your Portfolio

Speaking of wedding photography portfolios, now you have to grow yours. This goes beyond working as a second shooter. When you see those engagement announcements from friends and acquaintances, reach out and see if you can take their engagement photos. Mention your work with other photographers and be honest that you are just starting out. Often, couples will want to help you while saving cash. You can also opt for styled shoots so you can show potential clients you know how to get those big, glamorous moments. 

Get in Front of People With a Website & Social Media

As you grow your work, make sure people can see it! Invest money into your website so people can meet you while digging through your work. Also, make sure you keep your social media constantly updated. Play into the algorithm by posting often. Add music and consider making reels. This is going to help brand new people land on your page.
